Job summary

University of Leicester’s Department of Microbiology and Infection is seeking a Research Associate for a full-time fixed-term contract until 30 June 2028. You will investigate bacteriophage-encoded endolysins in Staphylococcus phages, lead experiments and contribute to publications.

You will design and perform molecular, microbiological and biochemical experiments, including protein expression, purification and functional characterisation, and support collaborations and student mentorship.

Qualifications

• PhD in microbiology or related field; substantial microbiology/molecular biology/biochemistry experience.
• Experience with recombinant protein expression and purification.
• Knowledge of bacterial systems and antimicrobial proteins.

Responsibilities

• Design and conduct molecular, microbiological and biochemical experiments.
• Lead data analysis, contribute to publications and presentations.
• Mentor students and junior researchers; develop collaborations.
