Job summary

Corehr is seeking a Post-doctoral Research Associate (Molecular Microbiologist) for the Clinical Infection, Microbiology & Immunology group in Liverpool. The role focuses on the molecular basis of immune evasion by the antibiotic-resistant pathogen Neisseria gonorrhoeae and related host–pathogen interactions.

PhD in Molecular Microbiology, Infection Biology or a related discipline plus experience in molecular microbiology or pathogenesis is required.

Qualifications

• PhD in Molecular Microbiology or related discipline.
• Experience in molecular microbiology, bacterial pathogenesis or host–pathogen interactions.
• Strong analytical and collaborative research skills.

Responsibilities

• Investigate the molecular basis of immune evasion by Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
• Characterise host–pathogen interactions and bacterial pathogenic mechanisms.
• Collaborate with Dr. Lavender’s research group on funded projects.

Hours of work: Full-time

Tenure: Fixed term for 1 year

We are seeking an ambitious and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join a funded research project investigating the molecular basis of immune evasion of this highly antibiotic-resistant pathogen.

This post will suit a motivated scientist with a PhD in Molecular Microbiology, Infection Biology or a related discipline, and experience in molecular microbiology, bacterial pathogenesis or host-pathogen interactions.

Dr. Lavender’s research group investigates the molecular mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis and host-pathogen interactions, with a particular focus on understanding how the bacterial pathogen, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, evades the innate immune defences to cause disease.

If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
