PGME Clinical Education Fellow - Supporting IMG and AMU

The post is a one-year fixed-term contract based at the Great Western Hospital Swindon (GWH). It offers an exciting opportunity for trainees interested in education, with responsibilities split equally between Acute Medicine and Postgraduate Medical Education. The role also involves participation in simulation activities.

This position is suitable for doctors at ST3 - ST4 level, such as those seeking further training in medical education through an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from their Specialist training. There is an opportunity to pursue PG Certification in Clinical Education.

The successful candidate will assist the Director of Medical Education and relevant clinical departments in designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating postgraduate training programs. These will include clinical skills, simulation training, quality improvement projects, and support for International Medical Graduates.

Main duties of the job
  1. Provision of clinical education for postgraduate trainees, including simulation and clinical skills, supporting the International Medical Graduate consultant lead.
  2. Participation in research projects or conducting original research under supervision, aiming for peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international meetings.
  3. Bedside and classroom teaching of postgraduate trainees.
  4. Coordination of postgraduate trainees' teaching opportunities.
  5. Supporting clinical skills teaching and ward-based assessments.
  6. Evaluation of teaching activities in collaboration with administrators.
  7. Undertaking necessary training to enhance teaching effectiveness.

Job responsibilities
  1. Promote and deliver simulation as an educational tool.
  2. Provide support, training, and advice to IMG trainees.
  3. Lead mentorship programs for incoming IMG trainees and support their social integration.
  4. The role involves a 50/50 split between direct clinical care within Acute Medicine and educational activities.

Qualifications
  • GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice

Experience
  • Experience with the ARCP process
  • Substantive NHS experience in Acute Medicine
  • Experience with e-portfolios and appraisal systems
  • Experience in Quality Improvement and audits
  • Engagement with postgraduate training assessments like the GMC trainee survey
  • Experience teaching postgraduate medical residents
  • Advocating for resident doctors’ needs and views
Knowledge
  • Sound clinical knowledge and judgment
