Job description

Job Title: Pest Control Operative

Location: Bolton
Salary: £14.13 per hour inc Holiday | £17.00 per hour Umbrella Ltd
Hours: Full-time, with flexibility for out-of-hours work
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Temporary

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Responding to pest-related service requests across Bolton, ensuring timely and professional resolution
  • Conducting thorough risk assessments prior to treatment and ensuring all Health & Safety protocols are met
  • Identifying pest types and determining appropriate treatments, including the safe use of pesticides and traps
  • Undertaking follow-up visits and handling the safe disposal of pests as necessary
  • Collecting and processing payments for domestic treatments in line with Council procedures
  • Promoting pest control contracts to commercial customers and assisting with pricing and service delivery
  • Maintaining accurate manual and digital records of all treatments, visits, and client interactions
  • Supporting drain inspections, sewer baiting, and other related environmental duties
  • Engaging professionally with customers and representing the Pest Control service positively in all interactions

Person Specification:
Essential Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills when dealing with both the public and internal teams
  • Sound numeracy and cash handling ability
  • Able to follow instructions precisely and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with health and safety standards and the use of pest control equipment and substances
  • Confidence in promoting services to the commercial sector

  • Awareness of diversity and inclusion principles in service delivery
  • Willingness to undertake professional development and share learning with colleagues

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in pest control or a closely related field
  • Hold a recognised certification in pest control such as BPCA Level 2 or RSH (Royal Society for Public Health)
  • Experience of working in domestic and commercial settings is highly advantageous

Other Requirements:

  • Must hold a full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to work in confined spaces and lift heavy items (e.g. manhole covers) using appropriate equipment
  • Comfortable working in sometimes challenging environments, including verminous or dirty premises
  • Must be flexible with working hours, including occasional out-of-hours response
  • Prepared to wear Council-issued uniform and follow professional conduct standards at all times
