A well-established accountancy firm in Reading is seeking an experienced Personal Tax Manager to lead and develop a diverse portfolio of personal tax clients. This role involves managing client relationships, providing tax planning and advisory services, and mentoring junior staff. Candidates should have over 5 years of personal tax experience and strong technical knowledge of UK legislation. The position offers a competitive salary and hybrid working model.

We are seeking a Personal Tax Manager to lead and develop a diverse portfolio of personal tax clients. This is a key role within our private client team and offers a blend of compliance review, team supervision, and advisory work. You’ll have the autonomy to shape client relationships, drive efficiencies, and contribute to business development.
This position is ideal for a technically strong tax professional who enjoys mentoring others, engaging with clients, and getting involved in complex tax planning projects.
Manage a portfolio of personal tax clients, including HNWIs, business owners, sole traders, landlords, and trusts.
Review complex tax returns prepared by junior staff and provide technical guidance.
Provide tax planning and advisory services, including:
Residence and domicile issues
Capital gains tax and IHT planning
Pension tapering, share schemes (SEIS/EMI), and profit extraction strategies
Trust and estate matters
Be a key point of contact for clients, building strong and lasting relationships.
Supervise and mentor junior members of the tax team.
Liaise with internal teams across accounts, corporate tax, and wealth management.
Support with the training and development of junior team members.
Contribute to process improvements and help drive team efficiency.
Assist partners with business development and proposal preparation as needed.
CTA and/or ATT qualified, or ACA/ACCA with significant tax experience.
5+ years of experience in personal tax, ideally within a UK accountancy firm.
Strong technical knowledge of UK personal tax legislation and compliance.
Experience in delivering tax advice to HNWIs and business owners.
Excellent interpersonal and client communication skills.
Confident team leader and mentor with an organised, proactive approach.
Commercially minded with a desire to contribute to firm-wide growth.
Competitive salary package (£55,000 – £70,000 depending on experience)
Hybrid working model (typically 2–3 days in Reading office)
Ongoing CPD and support for further qualifications if needed
