We are looking for Personal Assistants/Carers for our son’s support team. He has serious medical conditions but lives an active life. He also has visual impairment and only has unreliable means of communication. In rare instances, our son has two emergency life-threatening conditions, Addisonian syndrome and complex epilepsy. These need to be quickly recognized and protocols followed immediately.
Our son has serious conditions, but they can be managed by support from those who have gained the knowledge and experience to be able to identify when there are risks and then respond with remedial action. This allows for our son’s safety and well-being at home, in the community and during his activities. Our son does have a few identifiable triggers that can disturb his peace of mind, and it is important that those supporting him are mindful of these to ensure that he remains calm and well-behaved. You must have previous experience in a similar role which must include supporting individuals with complex needs, learning disabilities and epilepsy, that will demonstrate the initiative necessary for the role. Our son is big and strong, and so requires carers who can manage him through a combination of physical support and persuasion, and who can take the initiative necessary to facilitate enjoyment of his daily life.
