Job description

Personal Care Assistant for a young person P/T @ £13.74/hr in Cramlington - FTE - £26.8k - Cramlington - NE23

We are currently looking to recruit a team of personal assistants/enablers to provide support for three boys all aged 7 years old. We can offer part-time posts that include flexible evening, weekend and holiday cover. The support is required to enable these boys to access the community with meaningful activities and to assist at home with daily routines. These young boys enjoy woodland walks, visiting the beach and Air Box bounce, farms, and zoos, and have lots of boundless energy.

MAIN DUTIES
  1. Support to access activities in the community which the boys enjoy attending and to engage in meaningful and enjoyable time both at home and with outside adventures.
  2. Provide personal care both at home and in the community, assisting with washing, dressing, and mealtimes, including both morning and evening routines.

Rate of pay: £13.74 per hour. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rata.

Hours: 8 hours term-time with 16 hours during school holidays.

Person Specification
  1. Preferably have experience working with children who have disabilities and who can present with challenging behaviour.
  2. Have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs and developmental delay.
  3. Have an understanding of non-verbal children and how to read body language and behaviours; knowledge of Makaton would be useful.
  4. Understand sensory needs and the difficulties faced by these on a daily basis.
  5. Be physically fit to keep up with these children, as this post will require quick action on occasions.
  6. Have a high degree of initiative.
  7. Be punctual and reliable; these children cannot be left unsupervised at any time.
  8. Be flexible to cover holidays and sickness.
  9. Respect confidentiality. Training will be provided, both face-to-face and online. Further specific training can be discussed at interview.

An Enhanced DBS Check is required, and the cost will be met by Northumberland County Council.
