Job description

Personal Care Assistant for a young boy 20 hr/wk @ £13.00/hr in Leicester - FTE - £27.0k - LEICESTER - LE6

The role of the personal assistant (PA) is to work with Kaleb, without direct supervision, in the two family homes. It will be expected that the PA will provide care and support, including personal, social and domestic duties, whilst adhering to Kaleb’s individual care and support plan.

The aim of the position is to enable Kaleb to remain safe in his own home, ensuring a good quality of life is maintained. In view of Kaleb’s non-verbal communication and reduced cognitive capacity, it is very important that the PA encourages Kaleb to engage with everyday life in ways that facilitate his abilities and needs.

Background:

Kaleb is a happy and smiley little boy, but needs support and care at all times. Kaleb is 5 years old and has spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy with dystonia. This condition has affected him since birth, causing poor mobility, painful spasms, and global development delay. Kaleb has undergone surgeries and has a gastric tube to feed. He is unable to eat orally and requires twice daily suctioning, sometimes more regularly during unwell episodes. Kaleb is unable to weight-bear and has minimal head control; therefore handling is an integral part of his care. He has specialised seating, a stander, and a wheelchair. Kaleb has reduced cognitive understanding, therefore attends a specialised school, five days per week, where he enjoys play and alternative learning environments. Kaleb enjoys cuddles, massage, books, mirrors, bells, music, flashing lights, the sound of the hoover, being rocked, tickles, bubbles, and being talked to. Kaleb has good and bad days with his pain management and often needs someone to comfort and reassure him. He cannot talk but makes cooing noises to express himself. Kaleb stays at both Mum’s house and Dad’s house each week and both homes are in the north Leicestershire area. The PA would be expected to work across both households. The role will be a part-time job share between two personal assistants, across both areas.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide personal care and support to Kaleb.
