Job description

Personal Care Assistant for a young adult
25 to 37 hr/wk @ £15.23 to £16.28 hr in Wylam - WYLAM - NE41

We are based in Wylam, Northumberland NE41, which is a 20-minute drive from Newcastle and has good rail/bus links. We’re looking for a caring, compassionate and committed Personal Assistant (female). It's an amazing opportunity to join our small and friendly team for a 24-year-old lady with a severe learning disability and additional health needs. We work flexibly and can accommodate shifts to suit a good work-life balance.

About Me:
I am a delightful young lady who likes to go swimming, going on trips, out for walks, loves music, dancing, looking at books, and jigsaws. Every Saturday I go to a gym for people with additional needs and a club for young adults with additional needs called WeCan. I communicate non-verbally using gestures, facial expressions, a VOCA (Voice Output Communication Aid), and symbols.

Due to my physical disabilities, I require full support with personal care, feeding, and mobility. I attend college Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays and an activity Centre with care staff on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I have 24/7 care with dedicated day shift staff who assist me to have the best time with my different clubs and activities, and overnight care staff who enable me to have the best night’s sleep by providing proactive support at all times.

Hours Breakdown:
Hours of work: 25-37 hours per week, flexible, based on a 24/7 rota.
Shift patterns are:

  1. Weekdays - Monday - Friday 4pm-8pm
  2. Tuesday and Wednesday 9.00am-4pm
  3. Weekend Day shifts - 9.00-6.00pm
  4. Night Shift - 8pm-8.30am weekdays, 6pm-9am Saturday and Sunday
Alternative weekends

Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Experience of working with people with additional communication needs is preferred but not essential.
  • You should be trained to NVQ/Diploma Level 2 in Health and Social Care (or have equivalent experience).
  • You must be physically fit and active.
  • Motivated and have a positive can-do attitude.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Caring, trustworthy & respectful.
  • Possess a genuine commitment to the role.
  • Great at working as part of a team and also working on your own initiative.
