Job Title: Personal Assistant (PA)

Location: Starting from home in Tinshill, Leeds

Job Purpose: To assist Judah, a 12-year-old boy with autism, to live his personal and social life according to his wishes and interests. Support includes developing skills & independence, accompanying to places of interest, supporting social communication via AAC, and assisting with personal care and domestic duties.

About Judah: Judah enjoys books, poetry, music, swimming, and dog walks. He communicates using AAC and has motor skill challenges. Support involves helping him engage in activities outside the home and supporting his daily routines.

Main Duties:

  • Support with developing skills & independence in traveling and activities outside the home.
  • Social support: accompanying Judah to places like the library, cinema, or McDonald's; communicating via AAC.
  • Personal care: assisting with toileting and eating as needed during the scheduled hours.
  • Domestic duties: supporting travel by public transport or car.

Employee Requirements:

  • Honest, reliable, punctual, non-judgemental, flexible, adaptable, easy-going, able to work alone, positive.
  • Willingness to travel to the employer's home.
  • Knowledge of English, computer/iPad literacy, good communication and listening skills.
  • Experience with children or adults with learning difficulties, understanding of autism, supporting challenging behaviors, confidentiality, willingness to learn communication skills.

Preferred Criteria:

  • Driving license, car with insurance, swimming ability, dog lovers.

Hours of Work:

  • 3 hours on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, possibly alternate or fortnightly for 6 hours.

Training includes PA guide, safeguarding, understanding challenging behavior, hygiene, autism/Asperger’s.
