Job description

• Due to the nature of the role, you MUST be a driver and have a car available with business insurance to use.
• Due to this young man's communication difficulties, English needs to be first language.

About the Service User

• The Client is a 31 year old male who is on the Autistic Spectrum and has left Erbs Palsy. He struggles to understand social situations and cannot access anything outside of the home without support. He also struggles with anxiety and sometimes depression which impacts his daily life.
• He can communicate his needs and likes very well and is able to chat about his interests in great depth. However, social conversation and interaction is difficult for him.
• He loves to access community activities which keep him healthy and well in both mind and body.

His current activities include:

• Ju jitsu and he is learning the art of Japanese Sword fighting
• Tai Chi
• Pottery Class
• Art Classes both Face to Face and online
• He also enjoys:
• Going to the movies
• Visiting castles and places of historical interest, art galleries and museums if they have an exhibition of interest to him
• He likes horse riding and animals in general
• Theatre and shows

Main Duties:

• Supporting to ensure he is ready for the day's activities and his dietary requirements are met and he is dressed appropriately for the day (minimal personal care involved usually just reminding).
• Planning in advance (where possible) the week's activities in conjunction with the client and his interests.
• Transporting him to/from the activities and supporting him whilst there, when required and ensuring his safety at all times.
• Acting as his advocate when required.
• Encouraging the client to extend his activities and skills when able.
• Supporting communication and social interaction whilst in the community.
• Ensuring his dietary requirements are met.
• Supporting at home with activities of daily living when required.
• Supporting with appointments when required.

Personal Assistant Specification:

• You MUST be a driver and have a car available with business insurance to use.
• Due to this young man's communication difficulties, English needs to be first language.
• All applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
• Having a fun personality and good communication skills along with fantastic organisational skills are really important for this role.
• You must be confident to be able to advocate for the client and ensure his safety at all times.
• You should be honest and trustworthy, reliable and caring with good time keeping.
• An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.
