Job description

This role includes a range of duties, including personal care, household tasks, mobility assistance and social and recreational activities. This role also involves overnight support.


About the employer:

  • Young lady living in Woodhall Spa who has Muscular dystrophy. She is a wheelchair user and lives independently.
  • Daily engagement in a variety of different crafting activities and taking companion dog for daily walks is imperative and important. Alongside this listening to music, reading, watching TV/ Netflix, shopping and social outings. Family is particularly important and lives in family home.
  • Keep in touch and socialise with family and friends.
  • Attend medical and personal appointments.
  • Assist with hobbies, dog walking and variety of crafts.
  • Attend social events such as going to the cinema, out for lunch etc.
  • Assisting with showering, dressing, toileting, and other hygiene needs toileting and personal care duties.
  • Assisting with cough assist and night ventilation,


Mobility assistance:

  • Hoisting for all transfers to and from wheelchair/shower chair
  • Navigating the community
  • Physiotherapy and repositioning
  • Communication and support
  • Assisting with communication,
  • providing emotional support
  • helping with paperwork and errands
  • Medication management
  • Assisting with administration of medications
  • Domestic duties, to include.
  • Support with shopping,
  • Cooking and serving nutritious meals and snacks, maintaining of cleanliness of kitchen when using.
  • Managing household maintenance
  • These duties may vary from day-to-day.


Required Skills and qualities:

  • Patience, empathy and understanding; the ability to work respectfully with the individual with specific disabilities and their unique needs. Good at building relationships
  • Good communication skills; effectively communicate with the individual and their family or other care givers.
  • Reliability and trustworthiness; being dependable and maintaining confidentiality. You must respect the privacy of the Employer and their family. You must always maintain a professional approach, keep information gained during your employment confidential and specifically should not discuss the Employer’s household, domestic or health situation with others.
  • Physical stamina: assisting with transfers and mobility which can be physically demanding.
  • Flexibility; adapting to changing needs and schedules.
  • Willingness to learn; being open to new tasks and instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety; understand basic first aid and safety procedures.
  • Basic computer literacy; required to access online payslips and familiar with internet navigation and email management.
  • Basic understanding of pet care; dog walking, assisting with vet appointments, pet attention, playtime, general pet upkeep and ensuring safe environment

Other: due to the nature of this role including medical/personal care the employer will be considering female applicants only.


What you can expect to receive:

  • You will receive on site, work based and role focused training, sufficient to assist you achieve the objectives of your role. This training may be informal. Otherwise, the Employer will not provide any official training by an outsourced provider and nor are you under an obligation to undergo such formal training at your own expense.
  • There will be a probationary period of three months. If your performance is satisfactory your continuing employment will be confirmed.
  • The Employer may terminate your contract during the probationary period if you are assessed as unsuitable for the role.
  • The Employer reserves the right to vary your start and finish times, and the number of hours worked on any given day. Hours may vary due to the absence of other support workers, or the unexpected but essential change in the Employer’s needs. Varied hours may fall at any time during which the Employer is known to reasonably require support with the type of duties carried out in your employment. Notice of the variation will be given by anyone authorised by the Employer to do so, as soon as the Employer is aware of the need for change.
  • Employer will comply with the employer responsibility to operate a qualifying contributory pension scheme to which you will be auto enrolled into, subject to the conditions of the scheme. A qualifying scheme is a pension scheme which is a qualifying scheme for the purposes of section 16 of the Pensions Act 2008.You shall pay such contributions to the Scheme as may be required by the rules of the Scheme as amended from time to time.
