Personal Assistant to the Bishop of Kirkstall (cofe/TP/89775/8509) Leeds, England

Summary

The role of Personal Assistant to The Bishop of Kirkstall provides effective support to the Bishop by managing diary matters, correspondence, and enquiries. Ensuring the Bishop is well prepared for services, meetings, and events, and working with the Bishop to care pastorally for the clergy and people of the Leeds Episcopal Area.

The Bishop of Kirkstall is one of five area bishops working with the Bishop of Leeds within the Diocese of Leeds. Each Bishop has a part-time PA to build a strong working relationship and provide administrative support.

The postholder manages the Bishop’s Office, ensuring high standards in work for the Bishop of Kirkstall. The PA is often the first point of contact with the office, handling communication, prioritising mail and messages, organising the diary, drafting replies or briefing papers, arranging events and meetings, and ensuring the Bishop is well resourced. Confidentiality is essential.

The PA collaborates with senior staff in the Diocese, including Bishops, Archdeacons, Area Deans, and staff at the Episcopal Area Office in Leeds City Centre.

What you'll be doing

  • Responding to telephone enquiries, providing information, and directing calls appropriately.
  • Arranging confirmations and licensing dates for clergy in coordination with the Archdeacon of Leeds and the Bishop’s Office.
  • Making travel arrangements for the Bishop, including maps and directions.
  • Welcoming visitors to the Bishop’s Office and ensuring courteous treatment.
  • Assisting with refreshments for visitors as needed.
  • Managing the Bishop’s expenses with good judgement.

You will need to have/be

  • Educated to A Level standard or with relevant secretarial qualifications and equivalent experience.
  • Experience in an administrative role within an office environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook) and experience with databases.
