Qualifications

Rate: £12.21 per hour

Our 15-year-old son is cheeky, lively, and knows what he likes. We are seeking an assistant to support him in socialising, developing friendships, and enjoying life in our community. This role is essential because he has a learning disability caused by Autism and Down Syndrome, which affects his communication and safety awareness.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting communication through Makaton and/or an AAC app on his iPad
  • Assisting with toilet visits, including changing soiled nappies if necessary, and supporting toilet training
  • Helping with eating, such as using cutlery and cutting up food when out for meals or snacks
  • Assisting in making appropriate choices, like selecting food
  • Cleaning face and hands after eating if needed
  • Supporting outings to the park and assisting on play equipment, bike or trike rides
  • Encouraging participation in sports or after-school activities
  • Supporting him during out-of-school activities
