A leading organization is looking for a Personal Assistant/Support Worker to assist an 8-year-old boy with Ullrich congenital muscular dystrophy in Newcastle upon Tyne. The role involves supporting him with personal care, mobility, and engaging him in recreational activities. Qualifications

Job Description:

Hours: 4 hours per week term time, 8 hours per week school holidays

Rate of Pay: £12.21 per hour

Area: North Tyneside (NE27)

We are looking for a children’s outreach PA/Support Worker for an 8-year-old boy with a diagnosis of Ullrich congenital muscular dystrophy. He has low muscle tone and hypermobility of joints and is a full time powerchair user. He enjoys swimming, cinema visits and gaming on Xbox and iPad.

Brief details of the job:

He requires support with transitions as he is not weight bearing so moving and handling will be required.

He depends on others for personal care, dressing, teeth cleaning, toileting and help in and out of his chair.

He also needs help to change position in his chair and bed.

He has a PEG feed every morning and night to support his target weight. He can eat small amounts of solid food, but needs support cutting or opening items due to lack of strength in his hands to do this on his own

He needs regular physiotheraby and uses an exercise machine at home.

He has full-time one to one school support to help with his needs.

He needs support with accessing activities/groups by an adult who is able to meet all of the above needs.

Schedule:

  • Holidays
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • North Tyneside, NE27: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

Experience:

  • Non-Ambulant Wheelchair User: 2 years (preferred)
  • Moving & Handling. Physical Non-Ambulant/Semi: 2 years (preferred)
  • Physical Disabilities: 2 years (preferred)
