Social Care - Required - Personal Care Assistant

One personal assistant is required to support me with my personal care needs and social activities. It is desirable that applicants can travel with me across the county and have very good communication skills. Previous experience in this type of work, either professionally or personally is desirable but full training will be given regardless. You must be willing to work flexibly throughout the week including weekends as the hours needed are generally on a Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday.

Manual handling is essential for support as I use a hoist for all transfers and lifts and need full support, relevant training will be given and previous training with certification such as NVQ is desirable but not necessary.

UK applicants only (no sponsorship offered) and applicants must be patient, self-motivated, attentive, respectful and caring, and be able to work in a discreet and confident manner and have a good sense of humour. Being flexible and able to work on your own initiative is also important. Experience of communication with people with language learning difficulties (ASD) is highly desirable.

I am a 36-year-old male who has, from birth, been diagnosed with severe quad spastic Cerebral Palsy. I exhibit autistic behaviours but have no formal diagnosis. Therefore, I need support on a 24/7 basis with all aspects of daily living. I live at home with my dad who is now my sole carer since October 2023 when my mum passed away who had been my primary carer.

Responsibilities:
  • Support to carry out daily personal care routine, including toileting, showering, washing, oral hygiene, shaving and manual handling.
  • Support me with personal tasks such as getting dressed for the day and getting generally ready.
  • Laundry - washing, drying and ironing.
  • Changing bedding.
  • Help getting in and out of the bed.
  • Help with getting from the bed to the chair/wheelchair and chair to floor and vice a versa.
  • Help with all aspects of using slings and hoists for transfers and movements in the house.
  • General support with cooking nutritional meals.
  • Support to get into the community and taking part in activities.
  • Having your own car is essential as there is no regular public transport.
  • Support to attend appointments if necessary.
  • Prompting me to take medication.
