Job description

PERSONAL ASSISTANT REQUIRED FOR 69year OLD MALE
18 Hours per week and 71 miles per week

Take to/from Parc Y Bocs every Tuesday AM to attend weekly ‘Butterfly effect meetings’.
PA will need to be an experienced and confident driver.
Support the individual to keep a memory diary of his contacts and activities undertaken.
Support the individual to undertake activities that stimulate him and help him to make use of his many skills and interests, contribute and engage in the community.
Support the individual to go Swimming.
Support the individual to attend local men’s shed group.
Support the individuals to visit Art Galleries, museums, theatre, the beach and other places of interest.
Support interest to enjoy his interests in woodwork, art and gardening.
Support, encourage and motivate the individual to try out new activities that challenge and provide him with a sense of mental and physical stimulation.
Support the individual to manage small amounts of money should he wish to go shopping.
Assist the individual to put his mobility scooter in/out of car.
Offer companionship, reassurance and emotional support to the individual, particularly when he is feeling anxious or scared. Support may be needed in social situations should the individual “speak before thinking” and result in a situation that could cause offence to others.
Support the individual in preparing vegetables and other ingredients for making a meal and/or baking.
18 hrs per week to be worked flexibly, depending on what activities the individual has planned. This care and support plan make provision for any unused hours to be banked and used on subsequent weeks if this is required.
Indirectly, the PA will support the individual who is the sole carer and is in need of regular breaks and having time to herself.

1. Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence
2. Enabling the employer to interact socially in their community
3. Providing support to the employer whilst shopping and attending activities of interest
4. Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills
5. To provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction
6. Encouraging the employer to attend appointments
7. Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours
8. To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours
9. To ensure compliance with Data Protection Act.
10. Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to Carmarthenshire County Council immediately on (01267 228751)
11. Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.

Relationships: Communication / Nature of Contacts:
1. Ability to develop supportive and caring relationship with employer.
2. To undertake all duties in a friendly and helpful manner.
3. Able to contact people on behalf of the employer when necessary.
Job Working Environment:
Working in employer’s homes and supporting them to access facilities and community activities.

Person specification – Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
1. Caring, patient and friendly.

4. Has good local knowledge of the area where the employer lives.
5. Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties as determined by the employer’s requirements.

7. Good communicator able to talk to people on behalf of the employer when required.
8. Able to develop long-term supportive and consistent relationships with employers.
9. A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is likely to be required. This is determined by the needs of the employer and whether you live within walking distance.
10. You must be prepared to have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours
11. Be prepared to undergo training in order to best meet the employers need.
