Job summary

Surrey Independent Living Charity is seeking a reliable Personal Assistant to support a 28-year-old man with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy to live independently at home and in the community.

The role involves personal care, health support, domestic tasks, and helping with social activities, with shifts from early morning to evening and some weekends.

You should be proactive, flexible and able to work with care routines; driving is essential for getting to activities and using a Motability vehicle.

Qualifications

• Full UK or EU driving licence (automatic) – essential for using the Motability vehicle
• Experience with manual handling preferred (training provided)
• Enjoys cooking and preparing healthy meals
• Positive, reliable and flexible (including some evenings/weekends)
• Comfortable supporting with personal care

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care: hoisting, dressing, toileting, showering, and stretching
• Support health routines: ventilation equipment and standing wheelchair use
• Handle domestic tasks: meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, and tidying
• Engage in social activities: attend events, outings, and occasional sailing
• General support: shopping, organisation, working from home, and lifting heavier items when needed
