Job description

Personal Assistant for a person P/T @ £12.60/hr in LS12

Apply at UKCIL.com. Reference: 3e969991

Job title: Personal assistant (PA)

Location: Armley, Leeds (LS12 Postcode)

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to enable Paul to access the community and partake in his hobbies, with the assistance of a PA if required to allow this to be successful, however, we would also like the individual to promote Pauls independence where possible.

About The Employer

Paul is a 62-year-old male that has MS (multiple sclerosis), which has resulted in him being a full-time wheelchair user. Prior to the progression of his MS, Paul would partake in bike rallies, which is something he is still passionate about. Paul also has a passion for baking, more specifically sweet treats such as cakes, brownies, pastries etc.

At home, Paul has a female cat named Galadriel, who is friendly and will come up to you for scratches and to ask for food (dont fall for it), so being an animal lover is a must. Paul likes to listen to music daily on the Alexa (specifically rock music), so someone who can share the same interests/likes as Paul will be helpful. On TV, you will normally see Paul watching sports (rugby, football, boxing etc), cooking programmes, or old films.

Due to Pauls conditions, he has 2 carers coming to his house 4 times a day, who will administer his medications. It would be beneficial for the candidate to have medication administration training in the event Paul is out for the day with the PA. Paul is also hoisted for all transfers, so it would be beneficial for the PA to have knowledge of this.

Main Duties

Social duties:

Access the community (markets, town etc)

Attend medical appointments (if needed)

Attend social events hosted by the MS society group (if needed)

Help with hobbies such as baking, gardening, woodwork etc

Personal Care

Catheter care (emptying)

Administering medication if out in the community

Dying hair on the occasion he asks

Domestic Duties

Top up grocery shops (main shop is done once a week by family)

Light cleaning duties (hoovering, mopping, wiping down sides)

These duties may vary from day to day.

Type Of Person That You/they Are Looking For

We are looking for an easy-going individual that can share similar interests to Paul (mentioned above) and has a good sense of humour. Due to Pauls activities, we require someone who can be flexible when needed to support him to attend events such as MS group meetings or medical appointments. Someone who has knowledge around MS/catheter care/hoisting would be desirable but not essential. We are looking for someone who can gel with Paul and his quirks, as opposed to someone with all the knowledge and qualifications, so please dont be scared to apply if you feel you dont have all the necessary knowledge as this is something that can be built upon.

What You Can Expect To Receive

For this role you will receive the opportunity to access online training for full training in subjects such as medication administration and manual handling. You will also be allowed to contact us with any questions regarding Paul and we will allow flexible working to accommodate yourself and Paul.

A workplace pension can be discussed with our payroll provider once a candidate has been selected.

Hours Of Work

Paul has been allocated a PA for 8 hours per week (weekdays only), so weekend work is not needed. The hours of work are as follows:

1x 4 hour day

2x 2 hour days

We are flexible on the days and times of work. We may require at times the rota pattern to change depending on appointments/activities e.g. 1x 8 hour day per week.

Rate Of Pay

£12.60 per hour (weekday rate).
