Job description

Main duties:

These will involve:
Social duties

Going with Keith to medical appointments
Going out with Keith to the shops, barbers’ etc
Contacting doctors, district nurses etc on Keith’s behalf

Personal care
• Support with all aspects of personal care
• Supporting with mealtimes, feeding and drinking
• Catheter care,
• Administering medication
• PEG feed
Domestic duties
• Grocery shopping,
• Cooking and serving meals and snacks, preparing thickened drinks
• Cleaning,
• Changing linen,
• Laundry, ironing
These duties may vary from day-to-day.

You need to be honest, reliable, punctual, non-judgemental, able to build good professionalrelationships based on trust and respect, flexible, adaptable, easy going, positive, understand equality and diversity and have a good sense of humour.
You need to be able to work professionally with another team member for long periods of time.
You need to be a mature person who is comfortable having responsibility for his care while on duty.
You need to be able to maintain and promote dignity at all times.
What you can expect to receive:
Induction will be given via paid sessions working with alongside another carer. Training is available.

Hours of work:
Daytime shifts will usually start at 8am and finish at 7pm.
These shifts are all 2:1.
Overnight sleepover shifts start at 7pm and finish at 8am Night time rates start at 10.30pm.
There may be some flexibility within this, depending on other members of the team. Average weekly hours 33 hours over 3 days on a rota with possible overtime. You need to be able to work weekends and would get every other weekend off.
Rate of pay:

£14 per hour daytime
£10.12 per hour night time

Skills, qualifications and experience:
Essential:
• Experience of care work
• Care certificate
• Understanding of and adherence to confidentiality
• Good at building relationships and working with other people
• Eligible to work in UK
• Ability to keep Keith safe at all times
Preferred:
Current Enhanced DBS – though this can be arranged if necessary
Experience of using tracking hoist
Experience of administering medication via RIG
Good communicator
A good listener
Ability to support people with occasional behaviours which challenge.
Able to do overnight sleep work
Experience of lone working
