Job summary

A community support organization in the UK is seeking a Personal Assistant to support a young gentleman with autism and learning disabilities. You will assist him in accessing the community, managing daily tasks like meal planning, and providing emotional support. The role requires driving and a caring nature. Previous experience is valued, but not essential. Mileage will be reimbursed, and candidates must have a clean driving license and business insurance.

Job description

To support a young gentleman to access the community and increase independence.

Hours: 10 hours per week Tues 5.30pm – 7.30pm Wed, Thurs 6-8pm Friday 4-8pm

PA tasks: To support with emotional wellbeing and everyday living needs.
Support to access the community, access client’s places of interest.
Assist food shopping.
Support with meal planning/budgeting and cooking,
Assist with managing correspondence and bills.
PA will be required to use their own vehicle to drive client to places of interest, therefore own vehicle with full clean driving licence and business insurance required.
Mileage will be paid.

Client interests/hobbies: Likes to go for walks, cinema, bowling and shopping.

Clients’ relevant diagnosis: Dyspraxia. Autism spectrum disorder and a Learning Disability. This affects client in the following ways:

Impairment with spatial awareness, balance and coordination.
Social skills difficulties.
Anxiety / depression.
Communication or language difficulties.
Social isolation.

Client requires structure, routine and clear boundaries. He can struggle to read body language from others and take things quite literally. He can be quite trusting of others and form friendships quickly; he might not be able to recognise any danger he may put myself in.

Learning disability
It can take the client some time to process complex information. He requires information to be broken down to help him understand what is being said, particularly if the subject is confusing or there are lots of things to talk about.

PA required to work on a 1:1 basis. To assist to maximise independence and to access community social and recreational activities.

Previous care experience desired but not essential. This opportunity is suited for someone who is responsible, reliable, patient, and respectful of others’ privacy, dignity, values, and beliefs. You may be a good fit if you are looking to get back into work after caring for a relative or friend.
