Job description

You will be supporting a young lady who is nonverbal and uses a wheelchair.

There will be some Manual Handling involved.

You may be required to provide personal care.

You will be giving this lady drinks and soft food during your shifts.

You will be supporting this young lady to take part in community-based activities.

Thorough training will be provided with plenty of shadowing shifts.

Once you have built up confidence your responsibilities will increase, but we will go at your pace.

You will not be expected to support this lady on your own in the community for any extended period of time. Any trips will be 2:1.

Most of the training will be ‘on the job’.

Some of the activities will be evening activities and some of them may be based at a church.

You will definitely be taking this young lady to music gigs.

You may be wandering around town, shopping or visiting somewhere like WetheCurious.

Skills and Experience

Manual Handling training is required; if you have not received this as part of your course at UWE, it will be provided through South Glos Council.

You will be given Epilepsy Training.

You will need to be fairly fit as you will be pushing a large wheelchair.

You will need to be outgoing as you will be communicating with someone who is not going to respond with speech.

Most of the training will be specific to this young lady, so will be provided by the family.

Hours

Max 20 hours a week, days and times reasonably flexible.

Hourly Rate

Not specified.

Location

Downend, Bristol.
