Job summary

Independent Lives is seeking a compassionate, patient personal assistant to provide companionship for an 81-year-old woman with Alzheimer's in the UK. The role focuses on building trust slowly and gently, with good interpersonal skills and reliable timekeeping.

The position is for 4 hours a week, caring for a resident who may resist support at times. Applicants must have right to work in the UK and may need to undergo an Enhanced DBS check if required.

Qualifications

• Experience with elderly care or dementia preferred.
• Must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake a DBS check if required.

Job description

We are looking for a compassionate, calm and patient self-employed personal assistant to provide companionship for an 81-year-old woman with Alzheimer's.

The role will involve supporting with:

• Accessing community.
• Providing companionship.
• Offering reassurance, encouragement, and emotional support when required.

As she can sometimes be resistant to support, we are looking for someone who understands the importance of taking things slowly and allowing trust and rapport to develop over time. The right person will be gentle, reassuring and patient, with the ability to build a positive relationship at her pace.

The role is primarily companionship and will be for 4 hours a week.

Duties include:

• Other relevant duties as required
• Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
• Reliable with good timekeeping
• Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
• Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
• Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
• Able to always work to high standards of health & safety
