Job summary

Great Bear in Sheffield is hiring experienced HGV Class 1 drivers for a permanent, full-time role in a 24/7 operation. You will deliver palletised goods to regional distribution centres nationwide, with most deliveries via backdoor tip.

Shift pattern is 5 in 7 nights across 52.5 hours per week. You must have a valid C+E licence, DCPC and Tachograph cards, and a good knowledge of Driver's Hours legislation. Night pay involves a £1.75 per hour allowance and overtime paid at time and a half.

Qualifications

• Valid C+E Licence and HGV Class 1 experience preferred.
• Good understanding of Driver's Hours and Working Time Directive.
• Current DCPC and Tachograph cards.
• Ability to complete vehicle checks and report defects accurately.
• Commitment to on-site health and safety requirements.
• Excellent communication skills and a professional approach.

Responsibilities

• Carry out safe, professional deliveries to customer premises.
• Complete palletised general haulage deliveries to Regional Distribution Centres, with most deliveries as backdoor tip.
• Support occasional driver tipping or multi-drop deliveries depending on customer demand.
• Report to the Transport team at the start of each shift and communicate delays or issues promptly.
• Complete paperwork and ensure PODs are signed and returned to Transport Office.
• Follow company rules, health and safety and hygiene standards.
• Manage working time in line with the Road Transport Directive and tachograph rules.
• Complete daily vehicle checks and report defects.
• Take responsibility for the unit and trailer, including temperature checks where required.
