Job summary

Matchtech seeks a Perl Developer to join its permanent Data Services team. The role focuses on building and maintaining applications that retrieve, process and deliver data from thousands of global financial sources into a reliable service pipeline.

Based in the UK, you will work at the center of data acquisition, ensuring accurate and efficient data retrieval for use across accounting software and third-party applications, with exposure to AI-assisted development tools as part of daily workflow.

Qualifications

• Professional experience developing Perl solutions in production environments.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented Perl, CPAN modules and clean, maintainable and testable code.
• Proficiency with AI coding agents, such as Claude Code or equivalent tools.
• Confidence using AI-assisted development tools as part of a daily backend development workflow.
• Understanding of the DOM and web automation principles.
• Experience with Linux file handling and basic system commands.
• Familiarity with SSH, HTTPS, IMAP and POP3.
• Knowledge of SQL, particularly PostgreSQL, source control such as Git, CI/CD and automated testing.

Responsibilities

• Automate the accurate and timely retrieval of data from a wide range of financial services sources using common internet protocols.
• Build, maintain and extend Perl applications, processes and workflows that support data acquisition.
• Improve the performance, maintainability, scalability and accuracy of existing systems.
• Investigate faults, analyse data issues and resolve complex production problems.
• Work directly with data providers on production issue resolution and environment upgrades.
• Collaborate with development and managed services teams to design, build, test and deploy system enhancements.
• Identify product bugs, recommend new features and translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Document work clearly and contribute to a collaborative culture focused on learning, knowledge sharing and transparency.

Our client, a leading organisation in the technology and financial data sector, is seeking a Perl Developer to join its permanent Data Services team. This backend development role focuses on building and maintaining applications that retrieve, process and deliver data from thousands of global financial sources into a reliable service pipeline.
Working at the centre of the data acquisition function, you will help ensure data is retrieved accurately and efficiently for use across accounting software, order management systems, data warehouses and other third-party applications. The role also offers the opportunity to work with artificial intelligence and AI-assisted development tools as part of the daily engineering workflow.

• Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and business teams
