Job summary

Fortius in London is seeking a Theatre Practitioner to deliver high-quality perioperative care in Recovery and ECU. You will work with the theatre MDT to ensure safe patient care and compliance with policies.

You will mentor junior staff, participate in on-call rotations, and uphold infection prevention, documentation, and medication safety. Requirements include NMC/HCPC registration, 3 years in HDU/ICU, and CPD commitment.

Qualifications

• Registered Practitioner with NMC or HCPC registration.
• Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience in high dependency or critical care.
• Experience managing Level 1–3 patients in Recovery or ECU.
• Degree level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong clinical reasoning, decision‑thinking, and critical thinking skills.
• Experience supervising, mentoring, and supporting junior staff and students.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
• Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
• ILS qualification, ALS qualification, HDU/ITU course, EPALS qualification or willingness to work towards.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality care for patients in Recovery and ECU (Level 1–3).
• Monitor, assess, and manage patients’ recovery after anaesthesia or critical care.
• Collaborate with Anaesthetists, Intensivists, Surgeons, and MDT members.
• Participate in on-call and night shift rotations.
• Engage in emergency response teams and resuscitation roles.
• Conduct pre-use equipment checks and report faults promptly.
• uphold infection prevention and control standards.
• Maintain accurate documentation of care per policy.
• Safely handle, store, and administer medications; document changes.
• Provide clinical leadership and supervision for junior staff and agency colleagues.
• Mentor and support staff development, including orientation and competency assessment.
• Conduct staff appraisals and contribute to development planning.
• Promote a positive team culture and professional behaviour.
• Ensure 100% compliance with mandatory training, policies and SOPs.
• Support MDT collaboration, effective handover and shared decision-making.
• Assist during high activity periods and staffing pressures.
• Promote patient-centred care and team accountability.
