Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Registered Nurse or ODP to join the Bexley Wing Theatres team at St. James University Hospital.

The post involves working across Upper GI, Gynae Oncology, Thoracic and Robotic theatres with flexible hours to support six days a week service and 08:00-18:00 shifts. You will assess care needs, develop and evaluate peri-operative programmes, and teach learners within a supportive team.

Qualifications

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the dedicated and dynamic team in Bexley Wing Theatres at St. James University Hospital. Our Bexley Wing Theatre department is well established and consists of four operating theatres delivering high-quality, specialised care for patients undergoing Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Gynae Oncology Surgery and Thoracic Surgery. We also carry out innovative Robotic Surgery in each of these specialities. The Bexley Wing Theatre Department predominantly carries out major elective surgery and is required to run a service for six out of seven days (Saturday working is expected). Our working hours are 08:00-18:00 but there is an expectation to be flexible around start and finish times due to the nature of the surgery that we carry out. The successful candidate must be a Registered Practitioner (Nurse Registered or Operating Department Practitioner Registered). Previous operating theatre experience is desired but not essential. There will be an expectation for the successful candidate to work in all specialities (Upper GI, Gynae Oncology, Thoracic and Robotic) in a scrub capacity, anaesthetic capacity or both. The candidate may also be required to occasionally work in other specialities to meet service demand. This will give them the opportunity to expand on their current skills and experience.

To provide and be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for the Peri-operative patient. To carry out all relevant forms of care competently without direct supervision. Communicate with members of the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate continuity of care and promote effective team working. To assist with the teaching and supervision of learners and other staff. The jobholder will work within an environment caring for peri-operative patients.
