Theatre Practitioner - Orthopaedics (RGN/ODP)

As a Theatre Practitioner - Orthopaedics (ODP/RGN), you will play a key role in delivering safe, effective and patient-centred perioperative care across our orthopaedic service. Working as part of a multidisciplinary theatre team, you will support patients throughout their surgical journey, ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice, safety and compassion are maintained at all times.

You will utilise your expertise within Scrub, Anaesthetics and/or Recovery to contribute to the smooth and efficient delivery of theatre lists, supporting a wide range of orthopaedic procedures. Through effective communication, sound clinical judgement and a commitment to evidence-based practice, you will help achieve excellent patient outcomes while promoting a positive patient experience.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to patient safety, infection prevention, clinical governance and continuous professional development. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of the service through audit, education, mentorship and quality improvement initiatives, helping to maintain a culture of excellence within the theatre department.

Support a range of theatre functions, including Scrub, Anaesthetics and Recovery, while adhering to professional, organisational and regulatory requirements. Job responsibilities

• In partnership with other professionals provide excellent patient care. This process should include relevant assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in accordance with the Hospital & Departmental policies.
• Ensure high standards of infection control, aseptic technique and overall cleanliness within practices and the department.
• Ensure that theatre documentation is highly accurate and maintained to high standard (including electronic records).
• Participate in the collection of audit data as required and use findings to contribute to the improvement of patient care.
• In conjunction with their team contribute to developing and maintaining a department ethos and a standard approach to the delivery of excellent patient care.

Qualifications

• Registered Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) or Registered Nurse (NMC) with a current professional registration.
• Demonstrable experience working within a theatre environment, with competence in one or more areas of practice including Scrub, Anaesthetics or Recovery.
• Sound knowledge of perioperative care, patient safety principles, infection prevention and control, and clinical governance.
• Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care within a multidisciplinary setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with patients, relatives and colleagues.
• Ability to communicate sensitive or complex information clearly, adapting communication style to meet individual needs.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to make appropriate clinical decisions and elevate concerns when required.
• Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and support the efficient running of theatre lists.
• High level of manual dexterity, accuracy and hand‑eye coordination required for theatre practice.
