A local health board in Bridgend is seeking a Perioperative Care Support Worker to aid in patient care and preparation during surgeries. The ideal candidate will assist theatre staff, ensuring patients are comfortable and all procedures are safe. A Level 2 vocational qualification is required, along with experience in a health or social care setting. Flexibility and teamwork are essential. The role will involve supporting with the care of patients during their peri-operative journey at the Princess of Wales hospital. Theatre staff have an important role in making sure patients feel as calm and comfortable as possible. If you are passionate about patient care and looking to make a difference in a dynamic care environment, this could be the post for you.
As well as direct patient care, you will be involved with preparing and checking equipment, carrying out safety checks, ensuring clinical areas and equipment are cleaned and restocked, and helping to collect and return patients to the ward areas.
o Communicate with other health professionals to perform delegated duties to ensure a safe service.o Participate in Patient Safety steps for example briefs, time out, debriefs.o Undertake induction and competency-based programmes to perform delegated supervised duties.o Follow policies/procedures/ guidelines/protocols/safe systems of work.o Only working within delegated duties under supervision of registered staff / following schedules of work.o Alerting registered staff to any missing or incomplete documentation/ relevant patient safety information when performing patient checks.o Identifying whether items are sterile /disinfected and reporting compliance to standards.o Performing in conjunction with registered staff swab, needle, instrument and item counts alerting registered staff of any inconsistencies.o Report to registered staff deviations or trends from baseline basic physiological monitoring of patients.o Reporting faulty equipment and any alert hazard alarms on equipment to registered staff.o Instigate basic resuscitation after sending for help.o Follow schedules of work.
