An opportunity to join a dedicated team as a Band 6 Perinatal Mental Health Nurse in London. You'll provide essential emotional wellbeing support and work with various stakeholders to help families during the perinatal period. This role offers a chance to contribute to a significant service supporting mental health before and after childbirth.
Job summary
We are seeking a committed and compassionate Band 6 Perinatal Mental Health Nurse to join our dynamic, trauma-informed Parent-Baby Emotional Wellbeing (PBEW) Service in Waltham Forest.
The PBEW Service is a borough-wide triage and therapeutic holding service supporting families during pregnancy and the first two years postpartum. It offers early identification, emotional wellbeing support, and time-limited therapeutic work while clients are awaiting or transitioning into other pathways such as Talking Therapies, PPIMHS, or Family Hubs.
The team is hosted by TH GP Care Group and works in close partnership with Waltham Forest health and early years systems.
Following a successful first year of delivery and outstanding outcomes, the service was recommissioned for an additional year with the potential to be extended again in the next commissioning cycle.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build experience in perinatal mental health, parent-infant work, and integrated borough-wide service delivery.
T his 30 hour post is offered as a fixed-term contract until March 2026 and is an excellent opportunity for a secondment.
Main duties of the jobYou will provide emotional wellbeing visits, conduct mental health assessments, and contribute to MDT planning to support families across the perinatal pathway. You'll work in partnership with Health Visitors, Early Help, maternity, and local mental health teams to offer joined-up care to families experiencing mild to moderate emotional wellbeing needs.

Main duties and responsibilities
1. Clinical Delivery
Deliver emotional wellbeing visits and brief interventions to parents experiencing perinatal mental health concerns of mild to moderate severity.
Undertake mental health assessments and reassessments (e.g. PHQ-9, GAD-7, MORS, Family Health Needs Assessments), underpinned by trauma-informed and relational practice.
Support initial assessments or triage where needed due to staff absence or high demand.
2. Teamworking and MDT Contribution
Contribute to case formulation and care planning within multidisciplinary team meetings.
Work closely with Band 7 staff and Psychological Therapist to ensure holistic, family-centred support.
Attend reflective practice and clinical supervision as part of ongoing development and safe practice.
3. Multi-agency Liaison
Work in partnership with Health Visitors, Family Hubs, maternity services and other community teams to coordinate care and ensure integrated support for families.
Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to support safe transitions and joined-up service delivery.
4. Training and Capacity Building
Support the delivery of perinatal mental health awareness training to professionals across the borough.
Promote emotionally attuned, relational ways of working with families among partner professionals.
5. Safeguarding and Risk
Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with local and organisational procedures.
Monitor mental health and family risk factors and share concerns promptly within MDT or with the Operational Lead.
Maintain accurate and timely records of interventions, assessments, and communications.
6. Professional and Clinical Governance
Adhere to the professional standards, competencies, and values of your relevant registration (e.g. NMC).
Maintain own continuing professional development, and participate in line management, supervision and appraisal.
Follow all GP Care Group policies relating to clinical practice, safeguarding, information governance, and equality and diversity.
