Main responsibilities include:

  1. Lead and mentor a team of analysts to interpret data and support performance targets, providing high-quality analytical support to senior management.
  2. Develop and implement advanced performance measurement methodologies.
  3. Collaborate with senior management to define performance goals and KPIs.
  4. Analyze complex data sets to identify trends and provide strategic insights.
  5. Drive analytical decision-making to support stakeholders and foster change.
  6. Guide stakeholders on procedures, policies, and contractual obligations related to performance.
  7. Develop best practices in analytics, modeling, and reporting, including process improvements.
  8. Integrate new data sources to enrich analysis and identify process optimization opportunities.
  9. Contribute to organizational strategies using data-driven insights.
  10. Monitor and review performance data systems for accuracy and integrity.
  11. Validate performance plans and forecasts, updating as needed based on current data.
  12. Monitor delivery of performance schemes and benefits, ensuring compliance and highlighting issues.
  13. Prepare and review performance reports, escalating risks as necessary.
  14. Perform additional tasks as required.

Minimum requirements:

  1. Degree in mathematics, computer science, or equivalent experience.
  2. Advanced analytical skills with experience handling large data volumes accurately.
  3. Extensive experience in data analysis within a business environment, demonstrating performance improvements.
  4. Expertise in ETL, Power BI (DAX, Power Query), SQL, and MS Excel.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills to influence and work collaboratively, including with senior leaders.
  6. Ability to communicate complex data effectively through reports and presentations.
  7. Positive attitude and collaborative problem-solving approach.
  8. Leadership skills to motivate teams and manage workloads within tight deadlines.

Desirable skills:

  1. Understanding railway performance regimes and operations.
  2. Knowledge of railway software systems.
  3. Interest and knowledge in machine learning and AI applications in rail.
  4. Proficiency in R and Python for data analysis and modeling.
  5. Strong storytelling skills to present complex insights engagingly.

Location details:

South Western Railways HQ is located on the 4th Floor at South Bank Central, near the River Thames and Waterloo Station, accessible by public transport.

Working pattern:

Average 37 hours/week, Monday to Friday, with possible exceptions.
