Job description

Join Us as a Performance Analyst HDRC Economist – Shape Smarter, Fairer Public Policy in Newcastle

Are you passionate about using economics to make a real difference in people’s lives? Do you thrive on turning complex data into clear, compelling insights that drive better decisions? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for a talented and motivated Economist to join our Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) team in Newcastle. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in shaping evidence-based policy and investment decisions that improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities across our communities.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the design and delivery of economic evaluations, including cost-benefit analysis, ROI modelling, and impact assessments.

  • Support colleagues across the council to plan and conduct evaluations, help them ask the right questions and choose the right methods.

  • Analyse large and complex datasets using statistical software and econometric techniques, with a keen eye on quality and rigour.

  • Embed economic thinking into business cases and funding bids, to ensure our investments deliver real value.

  • Communicate your findings clearly and persuasively to senior stakeholders.

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to promote evidence-based policy and influence real-world decisions.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in economic evaluation and modelling.

  • Ability to apply a range of evaluation methods – quantitative, qualitative, and mixed – to a local authority context.

  • Excellent communication and project management skills.

  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to build strong relationships across teams.

  • Curiosity, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous learning.

It’s a bonus if you also have:

  • A Master’s or PhD in Economics, Operational Research, or a related field.

  • Experience using economic analysis to improve public policy and tackle health inequalities.
