Job description

Join Our Team as a People Services Advisor

Do you want to make a difference and be part of a vibrant and inclusive organisation that has been helping save lives for more than a century? As one of the country’s best-loved charities, St John Ambulance has played a pivotal role in responding to the pandemic, health emergencies, training, supporting communities, and improving young people’s lives.

We are looking for an experienced People Services Advisor. In this role, you will work closely with our People Leads, Strategy Partners, and wider Advisor team, providing general support on various HR matters. Your responsibilities will include advising senior managers on engagement, policies, recruitment, inductions, reviews, disciplinaries, grievances, and change management programs, including consultation responsibilities.

You will help our managers champion our values and support them in managing their teams through coaching and guidance. Additionally, you will liaise with our My Support Service teams to implement process improvements.

Location is flexible, with hybrid working arrangements, and occasional travel may be required. We pride ourselves on providing a supportive culture with opportunities for growth, work-life balance, and recognition for your contributions. Benefits include a competitive salary, generous pension, holiday entitlement increasing over five years, holiday purchase options, free first aid and mental health courses, discounts, cycle schemes, wellbeing tools, and volunteering days.

About You

We seek someone with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to build professional relationships. You should be comfortable working in a diverse, fast-paced environment with the flexibility to travel locally and nationally. Experience in generalist HR areas, stakeholder engagement, change management, TUPE, and advising on employee lifecycle matters is essential.

The Role
  • Guide and advise managers on informal resolutions such as coaching, training, and mediation.
  • Support casework from initial conversations to final stages, including appeals.
  • Provide best practice advice on recruitment processes.
