Director of People and Culture at Yorkshire Garden Centres
We are an award-winning company with an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, proactive, and passionate People and Culture Assistant to join our team. This role is a fantastic chance for someone looking to kickstart their career in HR/People and Culture, or for someone who thrives in a busy, dynamic environment and enjoys a role centered around recruitment and administrative processes. This is a 6 month contract covering a period of maternity leave (Oct-Mar). The role will be fully onsite with occasional travel across our sites; we are open to part-time working arrangements for the right candidate.
Overview
This is a key support role within the People and Culture team, with a heavy focus on recruitment, onboarding, and HR administration. If you love to be organised, process-driven, and enjoy keeping things running smoothly, this role could be your perfect fit.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruitment Support: Leading and owning recruitment processes: advertising, sifting applications, and conducting first-stage interviews to identify YGC’s next stars and fill roles efficiently.
- Onboarding & Inductions: Help create a fantastic onboarding experience for new employees, ensuring they feel welcomed and equipped from day one.
- P&C Systems Management: Ensure all updates and changes are made promptly and accurately in People and Culture systems, keeping everything organised and current. You’ll often be managing multiple changes, so stakeholder communication and time management are essential here.
- General Admin Support: Provide essential admin support to the team as needed to ensure smooth operations; including note taking, Health & Safety administration and supporting People & Culture Business Partners with people operations.
- Staff Engagement & Events: Assist in creating and supporting employee engagement activities across the business and help plan staff events that reinforce a positive culture. This involves travel to sites to support great events, ensure communication boards are updated and prepared ahead of each month, and spending time getting to know our GREAT times and enrich every working day at YGC.
- Communal Areas & Information: Ensure all communal areas are up to date with the latest employee information, making sure the workplace feels vibrant and informative.
Key Skills & Experience
- Passion for People and Culture: You must genuinely love HR and have a desire to help build a positive and inclusive work culture.
- Highly Organised & Process-Driven: A strong ability to prioritise tasks, manage time effectively, and handle a busy workload without compromising on accuracy.
- Communication: You should be confident in both written and verbal communication – this role requires clarity, empathy, and professionalism.
- Attention to Detail: You’ll be working on sensitive processes, so it’s essential that you’re meticulous and maintain confidentiality.
- Adaptable: This is a fast-paced role that may require flexibility and a willingness to jump in and support wherever needed.
- Recruitment Experience: Experience with recruitment or a strong interest in developing recruitment skills is beneficial but not essential.
We encourage applications from individuals who have been studying HR or related fields, or have gained experience in similar roles with transferable skills.
