Job description

Specialist Group | Maghera, Northern Ireland

ScaleX Talent Solutions is delighted to be partnering with Specialist Group in the appointment of a People & Talent Manager to join the business at an exciting stage of its continued growth.

Specialist Group is a leading provider of bespoke joinery, fit-out, glass, metal and specialist interior solutions, delivering complex projects for clients across the UK, Ireland and internationally.

As the Group continues to grow, this is an opportunity for an experienced HR/People professional to take ownership of the people function and play an influential role in shaping how Specialist Group attracts, develops, engages and retains its people.

The Role

Reporting into the senior leadership team and working closely with Directors and managers across the Group, the People & Talent Manager will take ownership of the full employee lifecycle.

This is a standalone, highly visible role with significant autonomy. It will suit someone who enjoys being close to the business – providing practical HR support day-to-day while also developing the people processes, systems and initiatives required to support a growing organisation.

Key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Providing practical HR advice, guidance and coaching to managers and employees across the Group.
  • Supporting employee relations, performance management, absence, probation and other key people matters.
  • Leading workforce planning, recruitment and resourcing activity across the business.
  • Developing effective onboarding and employee experience processes.
  • Driving learning & development, career pathways and succession planning.
  • Building future talent pipelines through apprenticeships, Higher Level Apprenticeships and partnerships with schools, colleges and universities.
  • Supporting employee engagement, communication and retention initiatives.
  • Developing and improving HR systems, processes, policies and people reporting.
  • Supporting salary benchmarking, progression and internal career opportunities.
  • Providing meaningful people insights and recommendations to the management team and Board.
  • Working with external HR, recruitment, coaching and development partners where specialist support is required.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a capable and commercially minded People/HR professional who is comfortable taking ownership and operating with a high degree of autonomy.

You'll ideally bring:

  • At least 3 years' experience within a broad HR, People or Talent role.
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification, or currently working towards this level.
  • Strong generalist HR knowledge, including employee relations and performance management.
  • Experience of recruitment, resourcing and talent development.
  • The confidence to advise, coach and appropriately challenge managers and senior leaders.
  • Strong organisational, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A proactive mindset with evidence of improving or implementing people processes and initiatives.
  • The ability to balance a positive employee experience with the commercial and operational needs of the business.

Experience within manufacturing, construction, engineering, fit-out or another operational environment would be advantageous, but is not essential.

Why This Opportunity?

This isn't a role where you'll simply inherit a mature HR function and maintain existing processes.

Specialist Group is continuing to grow and evolve, creating an opportunity for the successful person to have genuine influence over how the people function develops.

You'll have the autonomy to improve processes, introduce new ideas, develop managers, strengthen talent pipelines and help build the people infrastructure required to support the next stage of the Group's growth.

For someone who enjoys ownership, variety and the opportunity to make an impact, this represents an exciting next step.
