Job description

We’re looking for a People Advisor to join our People and Culture department

Location: Based from our Chorley or Warrington office, with occasional travel to other Avove locations as required.

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 Depending on experience

Due to continued growth, Avove is looking for a People Advisor to join our growing People & Culture team. You’ll provide trusted, practical advice to managers and colleagues, taking ownership of employee relations cases through to resolution. You’ll also work collaboratively across the wider People team on complex cases, projects and initiatives that strengthen manager capability, employee engagement and workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and own a varied caseload of employee relations matters, seeing each case through to an appropriate and timely resolution.
  • Guide and support managers through formal People processes, providing clear, practical advice and ensuring policies and procedures are followed consistently.
  • Act as a trusted adviser and coach to managers, building their confidence and capability in managing people matters effectively while helping to minimise risk to the business.
  • Work closely with the People Partner team on more complex or higher-risk employee relations matters, including TUPE, redundancy and discrimination-related cases.
  • Identify and elevate complex or sensitive matters appropriately, working with People Partners and external advisers where required.
  • Effectively manage and prioritise your caseload, taking into account risk, complexity, business needs and agreed service levels.
  • Build strong relationships with managers and key stakeholders, providing the right balance of support, coaching and constructive challenge.
  • Support organisational change activity, working collaboratively with the wider People team and relevant stakeholders.
  • Keep up to date with current and emerging employment legislation and ER developments, supporting updates to People policies, processes and working practices, as well as relevant training and development initiatives.
  • Use People data and ER trends to identify risks, recurring themes and opportunities to improve manager capability, ways of working and colleague experience.
  • Contribute to wider People projects and initiatives aligned with business priorities, including internal communications and engagement activity that supports a positive workplace culture.
  • Champion positive change, supporting the implementation and embedding of wider People initiatives across the business.

Skills & Experience

  • A good understanding of HR practices, employment law and employee relations, with experience handling a range of people matters.
  • Experience working within a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to provide clear, practical advice.
  • The ability to build trusted relationships with managers, colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Confident using data and reporting to identify trends and support informed decision-making.
  • Ideally, you’ll hold a CIPD Level 5 qualification or be working towards one.
  • Experience using HR systems and databases would be advantageous.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

This role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Visa process. Applicants must therefore have, and maintain, an alternative right to work for the duration of employment.
