Job summary

Bath & North East Somerset Council is offering two apprenticeships within the Avon Pension Fund Apprenticeship scheme, designed to start a rewarding career in pensions administration. You will gain hands-on experience across the Operational Teams with mentoring and support.

As a Pensions Administration Apprentice, you will learn to deliver pension services to members and employers, while working towards a Level 3 qualification in a friendly, professional office environment at the Civic Centre in

Qualifications

  • Educated to A Level or equivalent.
  • Commitment to completing apprenticeship qualification and to continuous learning.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong numeracy skills.
  • Able to work independently and in a team.
  • The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how to support the administration of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
  • Develop an understanding of pension administration stages and teamwork.
  • Investigate and resolve data queries with employers and colleagues.
  • Assist with responding to general and technical queries from members and payroll teams.
  • Learn to process changes to payment information and pension benefits.

About The Apprenticeship

Are you looking to start a rewarding career in pensions administration? This is an exciting opportunity to work towards a Level 3 Pensions Administration Apprenticeship while gaining valuable hands‑on experience across the Operational Teams at Avon Pension Fund. We are seeking to recruit two people to this apprenticeship role.

As a Pensions Administration Apprentice, you will receive support and training to develop your knowledge, skills and confidence in a friendly and professional office environment. You will work alongside experienced colleagues and play an important role in delivering pension services to members, employers and other stakeholders.

What You'll Learn And Do
  • Learn how to support the administration of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), including organising and processing pension-related information.
  • Develop an understanding of the different stages of pension administration and how various teams work together to deliver high‑quality services.
  • Learn how to investigate and resolve data queries, working with employers and colleagues to ensure pension records are accurate and up to date.
  • Assist with responding to general and technical queries from members, employers and payroll teams.
  • Learn to deal with queries from individuals and organisations about pension benefits and payments, including how to process changes to payment information.
  • Learn to allocate and scan incoming post to administration system.
  • Help organise and prioritise workloads to meet deadlines and service standards.
  • Participate in team meetings.
  • Gain an understanding of pension regulations and learn how to undertake basic pension benefit calculations.
  • Carry out general administrative duties, including filing, photocopying and supporting colleagues across the wider team.
