You will be part of a small team of Security Testers, tackling some of the most interesting cyber problems with a meaningful and tangible impact on the national security of the UK. You will be supported by Lab Engineers who will set up and maintain the equipment on site, as well as by Software Developers for building and maturing bespoke tooling and improving/scaling testing. You will work closely with the UKTL Vulnerability Research team who will consult on and feed into our testing.

You will be instrumental in establishing an industry-leading security facility. Your role will involve conducting security evaluations to identify new and existing vulnerabilities in hardware, software, and platforms that underpin the UK’s critical networks.

About the Role

You will be part of a small team of Security Testers, addressing some of the most interesting cyber challenges with a tangible impact on UK national security. You will be supported by Lab Engineers and Software Developers, and collaborate closely with the UKTL Vulnerability Research team.

Note: Successful applicants must be able to commute to the UKTL offices in Birmingham at least twice a week. We currently operate a hybrid working model, combining remote and office work, and aim to offer flexible working options where possible.

About You

Required skills and experience

• Perform security testing of hardware and software components in modern IT and telecoms networks.
• Carry out positive and negative testing, including fuzzing of network functions and protocols.
• Develop or script instrumentation and testing tools for automated assessments.
• Design and implement new security testing techniques.
• Analyze and communicate findings, weaknesses, and test results.
• Deliver comprehensive technical reports outlining risks and impacts.
• Contribute to a diverse team of security evaluation specialists.
