Job description

Job summary

If you are looking for a new challenge, a proactive role in a well-supported, friendly, dynamic, culturally astute, and inclusive environment that prioritizes women and birthing people at the center of high-quality care, then this opportunity is for you. Our trust has maintained a 'good' CQC rating since 2017 and has recently been awarded 'outstanding' for leadership.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic midwife to lead on pelvic health within the trust.

You will be at the forefront of implementing the perinatal pelvic health service, working in collaboration with the South East London Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) and NHS England. Your role will include promoting and educating staff—midwives and obstetricians alike—on pelvic health, ensuring they are trained to promote good pelvic health during antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods. You will also play a key role in establishing joint physiotherapy and midwifery pelvic health clinics.

This is an exciting time to join! You will develop working relationships with multidisciplinary teams and be part of our dedicated midwifery team across both sites. There will be significant learning opportunities, not only in new midwifery skills but also in contributing to a service designed to improve patient experience.

Main duties of the job

You will act as a champion for Pelvic Health, responsible for promoting high-quality midwifery and obstetric interventions aimed at reducing anal sphincter injuries and other pelvic health issues in childbearing women.

The role involves education, training, and audit activities to ensure:

  • Pelvic health promotion during pregnancy and postnatal care
  • Development and dissemination of evidence-based information for women in various formats
  • Provision of first-level training to maternity and primary care staff on pelvic health prevention, recognition, and treatment
  • Timely access for women to NICE-recommended treatments for pelvic health issues
  • Coordination with community services, including sexual health and mental health services
  • Consistent, personalized care pathways across SE London to reduce unwarranted variation
  • Achievement and reporting of key performance indicators to NHS England

The role will evolve beyond these priorities over time.
