This is an opportunity to work within the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) and Older Adults Services at Northwest Leicestershire, Coalville ((Base location may change)

We only accept applicants who have completed and passed the Peer Support Worker Training (Implementing Recover Through Organisational Change) programme at the time of submitting your application form for this position.

We have a number of roles across various locations and due to the nature of the locations majority of these roles will require you to hold a full valid UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle

The role of Peer Support Worker has been developed to specifically utilise the skills of people who have lived experience of having received Secondary Care Mental Health services. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, Peer Support Workers will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.

Main duties of the job

The Peer Support Workers within the Team will hold a caseload of the more stable, lower risk patients, using their own lived experiences to support the people they work with. The work may include individual pieces of work, such as putting together a recovery plan, supporting with completion of paperwork, or longer-term support in relation to social isolation, including accessing support or activities within the local community, supporting with appointments for their physical/mental health. They may also support other clinical team members to facilitate groups.

  • Establishing supportive, positive and respectful relationships with all people you come in contact with.
  • Providing peer support, maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Helping people identify recovery goals themselves.
  • Supporting service users to identify and overcome fears within a relationship of empathy and trust.
  • Undertaking appropriate administrative duties for delivering effective and timely care, including updating patient records.
