Job description

Two Peer Support Workers (PSW's) - Radbourne Unit and Carsington Unit, Derby

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work in mental health services? We are seeking to recruit two motivated Peer Support Workers to join our friendly and dynamic teams at the Radbourne Unit and Carsington Unit.

We are looking for two individuals who are dedicated to the principles of social inclusion to work with adults experiencing mental health difficulties during an inpatient admission.

The role will involve working with the Hub teams and linking into the acute wards, to offer a service for adults requiring acute inpatient stays at the Radbourne and Carsington Units. Our services are multi-disciplinary providing person-centred holistic care topatients with a wide variety of mental health conditions.

The role is focused on providing emotional support, drawing upon your own experiences of mental health or caring for those experiencing mental health difficulties. You will work with our team to provide practical and emotional support, allowing you to connect with people and enabling them to build self-confidence, a sense of personal wellbeing, build networks and engage with their family, friends and communities.

If you have first-hand, personal experience of mental health difficulties and would like to help others with similar conditions, then this peer support worker role could be well suited to you.

Main duties of the job

You will support the provision of high-quality patient services that are clinically safe, evidence based, delivered cost effectively and meet the Trust's Standards. The post will also involve working closely in collaboration with our Psychological Therapies department at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to be able to work with teams as well as on your own initiative are essential.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Satisfactory level of secondary education to GCSE English A-C grade, or equivalent (may be working toward this).
  • Completion or willingness to complete peer support training
  • Be able to demonstrate a good standard of English.
  • Willingness to undertake further training relevant to role
  • Previous experience of being a servicer receiver or a carer of a service receiver.
  • Mental Health or Health and Social Care related qualification.
Experience
  • Lived experience of mental health challenges.
  • Lived experience of accessing mental health services.
  • Experience of being in a supportive and enabling role.
