Job summary

EMED Group is seeking an Ambulance Technician (ECA) to join the STRS transport team at Evalina London Children’s Hospital, providing mobile intensive-care support for critically ill children.

You will work closely with clinicians, prepare and manage equipment, and drive under emergency conditions in a high-stakes, compassionate environment. A FREC4, CERAD, and C1 licence are required along with two years of blue-light driving experience.

Qualifications

• FREC 4 and CERAD qualifications, or ability to complete training before deployment.
• C1 driving licence and at least two years of blue-light emergency driving experience.
• Ability to pass enhanced DBS check and occupational health assessment.

Responsibilities

• Work with STRS Retrieval Lead and Retrieval Nurse to keep two specialist retrieval teams ready 24 hours a day.
• Prepare and check ambulance, clinical equipment, retrieval kits, monitor, ventilator, pumps, and gases.
• Drive safely under emergency-response conditions when clinically authorised.
• Support patient preparation, safe securing and loading under the direction of the clinical team.
• Assist with CPR, equipment preparation and other tasks within your competence.
• Provide calm, compassionate, trauma-informed support to parents and carers.
• Complete vehicle, equipment, infection-prevention and readiness checks and report any defects.
• Maintain accurate electronic records and communicate operational updates to STRS and EMED control colleagues.
• Participate in simulation, reflective debriefs, incident learning and continuous service improvement.
• Support aeromedical tasking and flight-stretcher preparation when required.
