PE Teaching Assistant for Children with Disabilities

Job Title: PE Teaching Assistant SEN (Complex Disabilities)
Location: Bournemouth / Poole
Rate: £13.68 - £14.72 per hour
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Start Date: September (Scope for sooner if preferred)

We are looking for a PE teaching assistant and Hydrotherapy assistant join the team at an exciting and dynamic SEN school in the Bournemouth area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the PE teacher in delivering inclusive and differentiated physical education lessons and Hydrotherapy Sessions
  • Work one-to-one and in small groups with students with physical and complex learning needs
  • Assist with the use of specialist equipment and ensure a safe and supportive environment
  • Support personal care, mobility, and therapy routines as required
  • Promote engagement, confidence, and wellbeing through physical activity
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students and help manage behaviour with sensitivity and consistency

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, particularly physical or complex disabilities
  • A genuine passion for inclusive education and physical development
  • Patience, adaptability, and a positive, proactive attitude
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE, NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or sports coaching qualifications) are desirable but not essential
  • A willingness to undertake training in moving and handling, safeguarding, and other relevant areas
