Job summary

Queen Mary's School in Thirsk is seeking a proactive Physical Education teacher to motivate pupils across a busy sports programme. You will teach children from Reception to Year 11 in Hockey, Netball, Cricket, Athletics and Swimming.

Reporting to the Director of Sport, you will contribute to an up-to-date curriculum and track pupil progress through ongoing assessment. This maternity cover runs until 3 July 2027 and starts 4 January 2027 with potential extensions depending on school needs.

The Physical Education teacher will be expected to teach children of all abilities from Reception - Year 11, across a breadth of sports, including Hockey, Netball, Cricket, Athletics and Swimming. The academic life and co-curricular sporting of the School is overseen by the Deputy Head and Director of Sport, who ensure an up-to-date and challenging curriculum is in place. On-going relevant and measured assessment is essential and pupil progress is tracked to inform future teaching and learning goals. Above all, Queen Mary’s believes that the learning process must be enjoyable and engaging. Teaching and learning are supported by a wide range of resources and extra-curricular activities, including sports clubs and additional coaching sessions.
