Job summary

First Step Physical Education is recruiting a PE & School Sport Coach to deliver high-quality PE sessions across Hull and the Yorkshire region on a salaried basis. You will plan engaging lessons, assess pupil progress, and work with schools to support a broad curriculum throughout the academic year.

The role requires travel between sites, a driving licence, and DBS clearance. This is a full-time, salaried position starting September 2026 with ongoing CPD and professional development

Qualifications

• NGB Level 2 Coaching or equivalent is essential.
• Minimum two years’ experience in sports or school settings.
• Knowledge of at least three PE curriculum areas (Games, Dance, Gymnastics, Athletics, OAA).
• Experience creating and following lesson plans and assessing pupil performance.

Responsibilities

• Deliver PE lessons and a variety of sports to primary pupils across sites.
• Plan and adapt schemes of work to meet pupil needs across the curriculum.
• Assess and record pupil progress each term.
• Be engaging, professional and a positive role model for pupils, staff and parents.
• Travel between Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire sites.
• Carry out risk assessments for sessions and equipment.

Join First Step Physical Education as a PE & School Sport Coach, delivering structured, high-quality PE and sports sessions to primary school pupils on a salaried basis across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire from September 2026

The Position

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic PE & School Sport Coach to work with our partner primary schools, delivering PE lessons and a broad curriculum of sport to the same groups of children each term. This role suits a confident, adaptable coach who can act as a positive role model, plan effective lesson content, and track pupil progress over the academic year.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver PE lessons and a variety of sports to primary school aged pupils
• Plan and adapt schemes of work to meet pupil needs across the curriculum
• Assess and record pupil progress each term
• Be assertive, engaging and respected by pupils
• Demonstrate professionalism when working with school staff and parents
• Travel to various school sites across the Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire
• Carry out risk assessments for sessions and equipment
• Coach on holiday camps during school holidays

Knowledge and Experience Requirements:

• NGB Level 2 Coaching qualification or equivalent (minimum)
• Minimum two years' experience working in a sports sector or school environment
• Good knowledge of at least three areas of the PE curriculum (Games, Dance, Gymnastics, Athletics, OAA)
• Experience creating and following lesson plans and assessing pupil performance
• GCSE Maths and English
• First Aid and Child Protection training (training can be provided)
• Full UK driving licence and access to your own transport, as travel between sites is required

The recruitment process consists of three stages: a telephone interview, a practical assessment, and a face-to-face interview.
