Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a PDA-informed Functional Skills Tutor to support children and young people in the BH1 area through personalised 1:1 tuition. The role focuses on Functional Skills, helping learners develop essential English and Maths skills while building confidence, independence, and resilience.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months' experience in an educational setting, including tutoring, teaching, classroom experience.
• Experience delivering or supporting Functional Skills English and Maths.
• Understanding of PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) and autism-friendly approaches.
• Ability to adapt sessions to meet individual needs and reduce learning-related anxiety.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Patient, creative, and flexible approach.
• Experience supporting learners with SEND, EHCPs, or additional needs is desirable.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• Driver preferred; travel locally within the BH1 area.

Responsibilities

• Support learners through a low-demand, flexible approach to learning.
• Build trust, reduce anxiety, and encourage engagement through personalised support.
