Job description

Due to service development, we are looking to recruit two pharmacy technicians to join our well-established, experienced, and friendly pharmacy team, currently consisting of 7 pharmacists (including a clinical pharmacy manager, a cross-sector senior pharmacist, 3 lead clinical pharmacists, and 2 clinical pharmacists), 2 pharmacy technicians, 2 trainee pharmacists, and a pharmacy care coordinator.

The pharmacy technicians will play an important role in our service provision, complementing our clinical pharmacists and other members of the PCN multidisciplinary team. Their core responsibilities will cover clinical, technical, and administrative categories.

We are passionate about creating a supportive environment to help pharmacy professionals grow. Successful candidates will receive a bespoke induction plan, shadowing time, and regular support. Our team includes senior pharmacists with education and training experience. All staff have regular 1-2-1s with their line manager and clinical supervisor. We also offer protected learning time, away days, clinical mentoring, peer review, and team meetings.

This is a hybrid role primarily based within our new PCN space, which includes a remote consultation hub, and across three practices. While there may be opportunities to work from home occasionally, the role is not fully remote.

Main duties of the job

• Undertaking patient-facing/support roles to support effective medicines use via shared decision-making.
• Supporting medication reviews, medicines reconciliation, and synchronization for transfers of care, referring patients for structured medication reviews, and collaborating with community pharmacies.
• Providing specialist input (where competent) on public health/social care needs, lifestyle advice, service awareness, and tackling inequalities (e.g., statin initiation).
• Supporting shared care protocols and complex cases alongside clinical pharmacists.
• Promoting antimicrobial stewardship and conducting therapeutic drug monitoring of high-risk medicines (e.g., DOAC reviews, requesting bloods).
• Working with the PCN and practice-based MDT on medicines optimization, medication ordering/returns, and waste reduction.
• Training on the safe and legal handling of medicines, e.g., implementing EPS.
• Building relationships across pharmacy teams and sectors (primary care, community, secondary care, mental health).
• Supporting national prescribing policies via audits (e.g., antibiotic use), QOF, enhanced services, and incentive schemes (e.g., medicines switches).
• Providing leadership on medicines management across the PCN, encouraging safe repeat prescribing, and monitoring high-risk medicines.
