Job description
Overview

There is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated nurse to join the Paediatric Critical Care senior leadership team in a permanent position.

We are a 14-bed Paediatric Critical Care Unit comprising 8 Level 3 beds and 6 Level 2 beds. We care for children across a wide range of specialties and work closely with the Children’s Medical Emergency Transport (CoMET) service for the East Midlands region. We are supported by the Paediatric Critical Care Education Team and collaborate with Nottingham University, providing learning opportunities for postgraduate nurses.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team, deputise and co-ordinate care on the Unit, and support the PCCU Matron.
  • Support a cohort of Band 5 and 6 nurses and the wider admin team that support the PCCU.
  • Be a member of the Paediatric Critical Care nursing team alongside Band 7 nurses, taking managerial, professional and clinical responsibility for the PCCU.
  • Have 24 hours responsibility for the management and delivery of care within PCCU and deputise for the PCCU Matron when requested.
  • Be part of a team of 7 Band 7 nurses with rotated operational and clinical responsibilities; contribute to the 6–8 week rota covering core hours.
  • Contribute to maintaining high standards of clinical governance and patient care within the unit.
  • Participate in annual appraisals and ensure staff training is up to date.
Qualifications
  • RSCN or RN Child qualified nurse with substantial experience in Paediatric Critical Care as a Band 6 nurse.
  • Recognised Critical Care qualification and Mentors and Assessors qualification.
  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to lead and support a multidisciplinary team.
Work Arrangements

The post is 34.5 hours per week. Part-time hours are considered with a minimum of 28.45 hours (equating to 10 shifts per month). The clinical band 7 role includes clinical coverage across the full range of shifts and an operational component with a 6–8 week rota for core hours.
