Job summary

BAE Systems Defence Solutions (Maritime Services) in Cowes, Isle of Wight seeks an experienced PCB Designer to join a small specialist team delivering complex PCB designs for advanced electronic systems. Qualifications

• Expert Cadence Allegro experience and PCB layout for complex boards.
• Experience with large boards (up to 24 layers, 2000+ components).
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 and IPC-610 standards.
• HND or higher in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Produce large, multi-layer PCB designs (up to 24 layers).
• Spearhead from concepts through to manufacturing data packs.
• Create and maintain manufacturing data packs.
• Support design and peer reviews.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electronics and manufacturing teams for DFM/DFT.
• Maintain component libraries and toolsets.
• Modify and maintain legacy designs.
• Mentor engineers and other designers on constraints files and tools.

Location: Cowes, Isle of Wight
Duration: 6 months
Working pattern: Full time, on‑site
Rates: £51.60 PAYE or £69.65 Umbrella
Security: BPSS + SC required (UK Eyes Only)

Overview

BAE Systems Defence Solutions (Maritime Services) is looking for an experienced PCB Designer to join a small, specialist team delivering complex PCB designs for advanced electronic systems. You will take designs from early concepts through to complete manufacturing data packs, working closely with electronics, mechanical and manufacturing teams.

Key responsibilities

• Produce large, complex multi-layer and multi-substrate PCB designs (team delivers circa 30 designs per year)
• Work from initial concepts and schematics through to manufacturing release
• Create and maintain manufacturing data packs
• Support design and peer reviews
• Collaborate with mechanical, electronic and manufacturing teams to ensure DFM and DFT considerations are included
• Maintain and manage component libraries, databases and toolsets (including symbol/part creation)
• Modify and maintain legacy designs
• Support and mentor engineers and other designers, including training on constraints files and schematic/PCB tools

Skills and experience required

• Expert-level Cadence Allegro experience (schematic capture and PCB layout)
• Strong PCB layout experience for large, complex boards (up to 24 layers and 2000+ components)
• Experience designing for controlled impedance, high speed digital, RF, mixed signal, high current, and large FPGA technologies
• Experience with blind, buried and filled vias
• Experience with complex mechanical profiles and enclosure/thermal/screening constraints
• Understanding of ISO 9001 and IPC-610 standards
• HND (or higher) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent experience
