Job description

Job Title: Payroll Supervisor
Location: Harrogate
Salary: GBP35,000
Contract: Full–Time, Permanent
Working Pattern: Office–based (flexibility for reduced or condensed hours considered)

We re looking for an experienced and technically capable Payroll Supervisor to join a small, friendly team based in Harrogate. You ll be working alongside a Payroll Assistant and will take the lead on overseeing and processing payroll for a diverse portfolio of clients.

The successful candidate will ideally bring prior experience from a bureau or client–facing payroll environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process a mix of weekly and monthly payrolls for approximately 52 clients, ranging from 1 to 85 employees.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submissions for PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, and other statutory obligations.
  • Utilise payroll software (BrightPay) and accounting systems (QuickBooks) for data input, reporting, and compliance.
  • Provide excellent client service through accurate processing and effective communication.
  • Liaise with directors and internal teams (accounting, audit, tax) as needed, with occasional administrative support tasks.
  • Maintain up–to–date knowledge of payroll legislation and best practices.
What We re Looking For
  • Strong hands–on experience in payroll processing (end–to–end).
  • Experience in a client or bureau payroll setting is desirable.
  • High level of computer literacy and familiarity with payroll software (BrightPay experience is a plus).
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and professionalism under pressure.
Team Structure
  • You ll report directly to the firm s four directors.
  • You ll work closely with a Payroll Assistant who has three years of experience in the role.
Start Date: Ideally before or by 11th July, to allow for a smooth handover.
